Absolutely one can experiment with different venues, however in the long run one needs to choose the best outfit for the journey :D

Mike, I think what Acro is trying to say is don't try to be a jack of all trades in the domain industry. Developing a site contains many components: business, marketing, web development, graphic design, SEO, etc. We can't be pros in each specific niche. But there are many domainers who try.

You cannot compete with someone who has years of experience and training in these specific areas. There is nothing wrong with learning something new or doing some components yourself but make sure you are not doing yourself more harm than good.

Acro, while I agree with your sentiments, I must say I enjoy the journey more than anything. Structure and regimen is often for me what sucks the real joy out of true learning. My enjoyment comes from navigating those uncharted waters and following my own course, however off the beaten path it takes me. Its been the same with me for most things, for instance I play guitar and other instruments, but I've always had a great distaste for formal music lessons of any kind. That's just me. I really don't want to know how this thing is 'supposed to be' played.

I don't believe there could be such a thing in the domain industry as a map straight from A to B. If there was it would probably be from someone hawking an e-book claiming to sell you the secrets to success.

I do see your point though and agree that most domainers aren't focused enough, even myself in the past. The question is can you be focused without having to be told by someone else.

what do you think needs to happen in order to bring order out of the current chaos that is the domain industry as you say? Cheers Acro, I always enjoy your thoughtful insights.
