Cyber Monday? No, thanks

Cyber Monday is a term coined by Shop.org, seven years ago – according to Wikipedia.

It marks the alleged beginning of online consumer frenzy, as opposed to the madness of Black Friday, where crowds fight at retail stores for deals.

While there are some deals to be had, nothing beats the post-holiday season. That’s when the real bargains occur, after everyone got their presents and there are billions in unsold consumer products sitting at the stores.

Perhaps, it’s great coming from a culture that exchanges gifts on New Year’s day, as I’m not prone to rush doing either real or online shopping.

The rush of giving doesn’t have to be extreme, for both the giver and the recipient to enjoy presents. In a the consumerist society that we live in, moderation and appreciation are keywords that need to be re-introduced to our vocabulary.

Therefore, I will pass on most deals offered on ‘Cyber Monday’ and will focus on making the day productive instead.
