Please cancel this domain

A month from now, Acro.net will be five years old; and I believe that its collection of anecdotes should increase, for the occasion.

Among the many emails I’ve received over my many years of domain investment and development, are various ‘silly’ examples of communication from third parties looking to acquire a domain name from me.

One such email I received today, from a very respectable person – according to my research – in Europe.

Instead of asking how they can get to own this particular domain, parked at Internet Traffic, they did a WHOIS and emailed me asking me to “please cancel this domain.“.

Obviously, after the initial chuckle, I pointed them to the direction of the “make an offer” form, because there is no way in hell I’d be canceling domains on request; definitely not pre-2000 generics.

Comments

  1. Just wondering – “according to my research” – What research? IP lookup?

  2. Jay – They were gracious to include their full name and corporate address in their email. 😀

  3. Acro – So they might have a serious interest then. Good luck!

  4. Jay – I just thought it’s funny the way they expressed their apparent interest in the domain.

  5. Acro – Several years ago I sold one domain to buyer from EU and his communication was similar strange… So, it may be a good start for someone who wants you domain name but has no negotiation skills.

  6. i would rather internettraffic/dns make the improvement so that the inquiry form cannot be completed or sent without making the minimum bid
i set minimum bids for a reason
usually $5k and higher for top end
    10 enquiries making $10 and $20 offers
    wastes everyones time
i appreciate this was through whois though
    hope you get the sale
    hope i get some too
after 3 weeks at dns not one even close to a sale
have started brokering my own though as tbh dns brokers cookiecutter responses are lame imo

  7. Thats really a funy one, Im wondering from witch country was the acquire.

You could try maybe to speak with them in theyr own language)
    Good luck any way.
