Pickles and Dicks : Flippa hump day special

I almost bid on Shane Cultra’s domain auction of BigPickle.com earlier today; but I got distracted by some late evening BBQ’ing.

It’s a great brandable domain, and I just might have a potential buyer for Shane – if only he picked up the phone to return my calls. Making $6k versus $600 should be a big enough incentive. Emails are ok too.

In another Flippa auction, DicksByMail.com went all the way to $100,000 bucks, only to have its top bidder disqualified.

What a dick.

The auction is now a mere $10,000 and lots of gummy dicks as inventory at the entrepreneur’s basement are waiting for a new owner.

Something that’s been bugging me for a while now and wanted to share: Why does Flippa allow comments in sales threads, without a bid?

I’ve seen people with “NEW” accounts signing up just to comment. Some people have 20-30 comments with no bidding history. Zilch.

Positive, or negative comments, it’s irrelevant. No bid, no comment, that would cut down on unnecessary noise at auctions.

On a good note, Shane’s sale of Weak.net for $1,000 should net him almost $600, if this NameJet page is right.

Lastly, I like the new Flippa app for Android, it’s about time that non-Apple users can search the domain auctions from our couches. Works like a charm too.

Comments

  1. I think the namejet page you link to is just the current backorder for Weak.net. Not the auction price.

  2. Kosta – In that case, BigPickle should help recover any loss from the weak.net auction. If I were a brewery entrepreneur, or a pickle man (hints…) I’d love to own BigPickle.com.

  3. Namebio is showing that Weak.net sold for $1,351 on 1/24/2008 and for $2,900 on 4/01/2008

  4. Shane’s other auction RealBright.com sold for $650 reserve met

  5. Tom – Two out of three isn’t shabby at all. My favorite is BigPickle.com obviously. Hopefully Shane is in a good mood and he’ll give me a buzz so that we can talk biz.

  6. Ahhh. To save everyone the trouble.

Weak.net Way overpaid a long time ago and paid $3K for weak. Lost $2000
RealBright.com I bought for $51 on Flippa and relisted it the next day and sold for $650
BigPickle.com Bought for $150 a few weeks ago on Godaddy and relisted and sold.
Sold 5L.com to French company for $4500 yesterday
And finally picked up another 2 advertisers this week
Loving being on the Sherpa with amazing people
Things are going fine my friend Acro. This articles proves why we will never talk again.

  7. Shane – Last time I greeted you at NamesCon in January, you kinda sorta mumbled “but that’s my style of humor.” Keeping in mind how you blew 5 years of on/off “friendship” over a chance to Google bomb my name, I think you showed your true colors towards me time and again.

I am not interested in your personal life the way you’ve invaded mine, or how well you do professionally. If I could issue a “job well done” for every successful sale of yours, I would – provided that you would not be a dick about it.

See you at NamesCon 2016 – but I won’t be shaking your hand this time.

  8. nice deal. Sedo’s last week sales reached $1.2 million mark. thanks for the info.
