There are many reasons why America still ranks #1 in the world, but today – on Independence Day<\/em> – I figured out one more.<\/p>\n

Went to Target to get a propane canister for today’s BBQ. There was one canister type, one brand plus one generic. Would it fit the grill, I wondered, as I do every year.<\/p>\n

Sure enough, it did.<\/p>\n

And that’s why I love America: it’s consistent. One size fits all. Made to last.<\/p>\n

In the US, a hot dog is always the same: sausage, bun, mustard. Sure, you can add relish, ketchup and onions if you like, but you’d never have a “taco” hot dog.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in Greece a “souvlaki” can arrive with or without pita (single or double) or on a skewer, in pork, chicken or beef patty, with or without tzatziki, with or without tomatoes and onions, with fries in the wrap or plain – depending of the grilling shop’s definition of it. Totally confusing.<\/p>\n
