{"id":2549,"date":"2012-08-15T16:35:47","date_gmt":"2012-08-15T20:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/?p=2549"},"modified":"2012-08-15T16:40:47","modified_gmt":"2012-08-15T20:40:47","slug":"lock-and-load-heres-why-sedo-needs-to-arm-the-domain-sellers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/lock-and-load-heres-why-sedo-needs-to-arm-the-domain-sellers\/","title":{"rendered":"Lock and load: Here&#8217;s why Sedo needs to arm the domain sellers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those of you that use Sedo as their primary domain marketplace surely agree that the first thing you look at in an offer, is the locale of the offer-maker.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, the price is there, in your face; to shock you or elate you, but the other clue that Sedo provides is where that offer is coming from.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, I mentioned how an account making a lengthy introduction with <a href=\"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/domains\/sedo-deletes-account-that-was-fast\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>religious overtones<\/strong><\/a>, was terminated at Sedo within a matter of hours. My suspicion is that something wasn&#8217;t <em>kosher<\/em> about their account, and they were misrepresenting themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The other day, I had a &#8220;<em>fun<\/em>&#8221; exchange with someone whose location was Libya. To be accurate, the country was listed as <strong>Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unless the late <em>Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi<\/em> bestowed a large portion of his ill-amassed wealth to technocrats in Libya, I highly doubt that this offer was made via a legitimate person from Libya. In fact, Libyan IP ranges are known to be compromised, serving active proxies and acting as senders of spam and malware.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Sedo confirmed that the supposed Libyan offer was made through one such IP, and I raised the issue of being able to block specific countries or regions from placing offers or bidding at auctions.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a legitimate request, and from a technical standpoint it is easy to implement &#8211; once it goes beyond the <strong>rigorous quality assurance<\/strong> that Sedo puts in place. I must admit, that I&#8217;m making this statement <em>tongue-in-cheek<\/em>, in order to describe the lengthy process that Sedo&#8217;s Germany-based programmers undertake, before even the smallest code tweak is made. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, as a seller, I would like to be able to <strong>block out unwanted offers based on location<\/strong>; my past experience about <a href=\"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/domains\/one-out-of-three-swiss-domainers-is-a-stellar-guy\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>certain countries<\/strong><\/a> and how they operate with regards to business would support that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Those of you that use Sedo as their primary domain marketplace surely agree that the first thing you look at in an offer, is the locale of the offer-maker.
