{"id":2588,"date":"2012-08-19T16:05:12","date_gmt":"2012-08-19T20:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/?p=2588"},"modified":"2012-08-19T16:05:55","modified_gmt":"2012-08-19T20:05:55","slug":"and-this-is-why-i-dont-buy-domains-on-weekends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/and-this-is-why-i-dont-buy-domains-on-weekends\/","title":{"rendered":"And this is why I don&#8217;t buy domains on weekends!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A rather alarming thread over at DNForum unravels the plight of a buyer from Turkey, who paid a four-figure sum for a LLLL .com domain.<\/p>\n<p>At least, that&#8217;s what he thought he was getting.<\/p>\n<p>The seller, apparently posting from a hijacked member account, claimed that he was offering for sale the domain name <strong>MOIL.com.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Notice the capitalization; in lower case, the domain would be <strong>moil.com<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The buyer sent payment via PayPal, only to receive the domain name <strong>RNOIL.com<\/strong> &#8211; or, <strong>rnoil.com<\/strong> in lower case.<\/p>\n<p>Clearly a scam, as the RNOIL.com domain was registered yesterday and the &#8220;r&#8221; and &#8220;n&#8221; letters together are made to look like an &#8220;m&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s why I don&#8217;t buy domains on weekends, at least not from people I have not transacted with in the past: one cannot call the phone number in the WHOIS and verify if indeed the domain is for sale.<\/p>\n<p>MOIL.com belongs to a Texan company and the URL brings up a password-protected area.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full drama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnforum.com\/f417\/moil-com-make-offer-moil-thread-490958.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rather alarming thread over at DNForum unravels the plight of a buyer from Turkey, who paid a four-figure sum for a LLLL .com domain.
