{"id":2747,"date":"2012-09-25T10:31:03","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T14:31:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/?p=2747"},"modified":"2012-09-25T10:31:03","modified_gmt":"2012-09-25T14:31:03","slug":"the-best-domain-sales-arent-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/the-best-domain-sales-arent-public\/","title":{"rendered":"The best domain sales aren&#8217;t public"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following up on my previous article with regards to <a href=\"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/domains\/cold-calls-get-on-the-damn-phone\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>placing cold calls<\/strong><\/a>, here is some additional advice from my personal, professional experience.<\/p>\n<p>Although at times it&#8217;s beneficial to get the word out there about your domain assets, other times <strong>increased publicity can be the wrong choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allow me to describe this paradox in detail.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine that you are holding a precious, valuable asset and you&#8217;re offering it to the public as a commodity. Regardless of the asking price, the increased publicity &#8211; <em>when not made in a manner that greatly enhances the domain&#8217;s value<\/em> &#8211; can hurt you in the long run.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Still don&#8217;t get it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your wife or girlfriend might be beautiful or skilled in the art of love; would you parade her in front of a street market, allowing strangers to ogle or poke her?<\/p>\n<p>I sure hope not.<\/p>\n<p>Promoting the availability of a domain name must be done in a controlled fashion. Allowing others to take hold of the name and peddle it on forums, over Twitter or Facebook, can severely damage the way this asset is perceived by the general public.<\/p>\n<p>If you must engage the services of a professional PR firm or a domain broker, be very selective. Ask for credentials and a proven track record. Selling a domain does not equal to letting the entire Internet know about it.<\/p>\n<p>The best domain sales are not public or even publicized; many successful transactions occur when flying &#8220;<em>below the radar<\/em>&#8220;, so to speak.<\/p>\n<p>And lastly, if you do send out your own press releases, <strong>proof-read them for God&#8217;s sake.<\/strong> There is nothing worse than a press release laden with typographical errors or other grammatical inconsistencies that will reflect bad on your own, precious asset: your domain name.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following up on my previous article with regards to placing cold calls, here is some additional advice from my personal, professional experience.
