Getting inquiries through the Internet Traffic panel<\/a><\/strong> is productive but also entertaining. There is a small – very small<\/em> – amount of seemingly automated spam, that could be avoided via the implementation of some sort of captcha, but I’ve no complaints there.<\/p>\n

Some inquiries do deliver an amount of entertainment, such as the one that states “that’s all I can afford – $100<\/em>“.<\/p>\n

The dot com they inquired about is taken in every major TLD, including dashed versions and extended variations, which I found using ZFBot.com.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Frank Schilling’s DNS panel makes it a cinch to search for querying names, emails and even IP addresses; you can literally cross-compare any such inquiries as well.<\/p>\n

When my asking price wasn’t met by that person from Greece, I let them know that they can register the .gr right this minute, for about 10 euro; much less than their allocated budget of one hundred bucks.<\/p>\n

Their response, that they want the .com and they want it cheap, made me realize that people’s expectations are quite unreasonable, after more than 15 years have passed since the launch of the commercial Internet.<\/p>\n

Unless one invents a time machine, domain names will continue to appreciate in value and will be sooner or later be sold at prices consistent with the notion that the early bird catches the worm. Holding long is the way to go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
