Holding a domain &#8211; <em>or several<\/em> &#8211; for years, one reaches a point that they can&#8217;t let go.<\/p>\n<p>Until the right offer comes, that is. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Despite what romantics among us want you to believe, money does buy everything: products, ideas, even people. And as far as those soul-less domains are concerned, they come at the bottom of the food chain &#8211; trust me.<\/p>\n<p>So the question is, how long does one hold on a domain name, and should they eventually sell?<\/p>\n<p>To accurately answer this, consider the following points:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>What is your main occupation?<\/li>\n<li>How much time do you devote to domain investing?<\/li>\n<li>Do you consider yourself financially secure?<\/li>\n<li>Are you ready to face the upcoming &#8216;fiscal cliff&#8217; and other aspects of this bad economy?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As with every other investment, domain investing carries an inherent risk. You don&#8217;t have a promissory note tagged to every domain, it is not expected to perform when you register or acquire it.<\/p>\n<p>Letting go of those domains that after several years of holding don&#8217;t seem to perform, is a critical decision that you should make &#8211; but first, talk to your accountant. Long term investments that fail, are losses.
