{"id":4392,"date":"2015-01-25T12:02:01","date_gmt":"2015-01-25T17:02:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/?p=4392"},"modified":"2015-01-25T12:06:37","modified_gmt":"2015-01-25T17:06:37","slug":"greek-elections-cannot-vote-org","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/greek-elections-cannot-vote-org\/","title":{"rendered":"Greek Elections: I Cannot Vote .org"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Greece<\/strong> is having crucial national elections today, the results of which some say might shock the European Union&#8217;s economy, once again.<\/p>\n<p>In Greece, where democracy was established two and a half millennia ago, the right to vote has been both a privilege and an obligation, reserved for the Greek citizens aged 18 and above.<\/p>\n<p>As a Greek expatriate, however, <strong>I cannot vote remotely<\/strong>, as the state&#8217;s bureaucracy and inability &#8211; <em>or unwillingness<\/em> &#8211; to adapt its voting system, is prohibiting me from casting my ballot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ICannotVote.org\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>ICannotVote.org<\/strong><\/a> was formed in 2012, as a protest web site to seek a change in the way that the Greek state treats its citizens that live abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Because I cannot vote, I&#8217;m making my statement about the 2015 Elections in Greece using the image below, that incorporates a &#8220;<strong>moutza<\/strong>&#8221; &#8211; the gesture used in Greece for &#8220;<em>go to hell.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Greek politicians must proceed to resolve this injustice and display of inequality towards Greek expatriates, that want to vote but cannot do so in person.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4393\" src=\"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/moutza.png\" alt=\"moutza\" width=\"800\" height=\"483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/moutza.png 800w, https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/moutza-300x181.png 300w, https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/moutza-768x464.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greece is having crucial national elections today, the results of which some say might shock the European Union&#8217;s economy, once again.
