{"id":4678,"date":"2015-07-07T14:31:43","date_gmt":"2015-07-07T18:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/?p=4678"},"modified":"2015-07-08T14:27:53","modified_gmt":"2015-07-08T18:27:53","slug":"godaddy-and-two-factor-authentication-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/godaddy-and-two-factor-authentication-update\/","title":{"rendered":"GoDaddy and two-factor authentication update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Two factor authentication<\/strong> is a must these days; domain hijacking is rampant and <strong>cybercriminals<\/strong> often devise some crafty attempts to steal domains <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/domaingang.com\/domain-crime\/gmail-and-domains-phishers-using-sms-to-hijack-your-account\/\" target=\"_blank\">via social engineering.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Domain registrars that currently implement two-factor authentication include <strong>GoDaddy<\/strong> (SMS, US only), <strong>Uniregistry<\/strong> (Google app), <strong>Name.com<\/strong> (Google app) and <strong>eNom<\/strong> (Google app).<\/p>\n<p>Currently, GoDaddy is being targeted by cybercriminals simply because of its large volume of domain registrations; unfortunately, the two-factor authentication is only available via SMS\/text message to US customers.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, I reached out to <strong>GoDaddy<\/strong> Aftermarket Product Manager, <a href=\"http:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/business\/godaddy-expired-domains-why-the-long-wait-after-payment\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Joe Styler<\/strong><\/a>, who has been assisting with domain theft issues as well.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Styler mentioned that two-factor authentication is coming for international customers as well.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, GoDaddy planned to utilize the Google Authenticator app for that matter, but a decision was made to produce a dedicated app for this, thus keeping control of inbound and outbound data.<\/p>\n<p>I think this is a smart decision as the volume of such requests would enable GoDaddy to establish proper control of customer information and its safety.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, there is no set date that the two-factor authentication app will be made available, but I remain optimistic.<\/p>\n<p>If your domain registrar supports two factor authentication, make sure you enable it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two factor authentication is a must these days; domain hijacking is rampant and cybercriminals often devise some crafty attempts to steal domains via social engineering.
