{"id":5648,"date":"2018-04-10T12:47:18","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T16:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/?p=5648"},"modified":"2018-04-10T13:05:20","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T17:05:20","slug":"gdpr-and-domain-sales-mandate-the-use-of-escrow-com-concierge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/gdpr-and-domain-sales-mandate-the-use-of-escrow-com-concierge\/","title":{"rendered":"GDPR and domain sales mandate the use of Escrow.com Concierge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the upcoming onslaught of the <a href=\"https:\/\/domaingang.com\/domain-news\/gdpr-compliance-google-updates-policies-as-a-domain-registrar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>GDPR<\/strong><\/a> &#8211;<em> a European Union approach to data privacy that wasn&#8217;t vetted by American organizations<\/em> &#8211; the domain industry is about to lose yet another battle.<\/p>\n<p>So far, ICANN has been unable to come to a consensus regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/domaingang.com\/domain-news\/data-privacy-and-whois-icann-president-shares-update-on-the-gdpr-compliance-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WHOIS policies under the GDPR.<\/strong><\/a> It seems that the lack of a definitive action will result in the masking of most data from all WHOIS repositories, to avoid complications or potential penalties.<\/p>\n<p>For better or worse, domain ownership has been associated with the WHOIS for the best part of the commercial Internet and domain life.<\/p>\n<p>New technologies, such as blockchain, might shift the paradigm onto a structure that delivers signed, digital titles of domain ownership, without the need to expose all information.<\/p>\n<p>Until then, the best solution when buying and selling domain names via a third party escrow service, such as Escrow.com, is to let someone else bear the burden of confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the <a href=\"https:\/\/acro.net\/blog\/first-experience-using-the-escrow-com-domain-concierge-service-for-domain-transactions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>benefit of Escrow.com Concierge,<\/strong><\/a> which I use almost exclusively these days.
