Twenty-two years<\/strong> ago I opened an eNom<\/strong><\/a> account as a subseller<\/em>, allowing me to register domains at a lower price. It also gave me other benefits, such as registering and managing domains for clients.<\/p>\n

eNom was fresh and a smart choice, away from the mediocrity of GoDaddy<\/strong><\/a> and Network Solutions at the time. Even Stargate, a cheap alternative, was riddled with issues and eNom felt in general more secure.<\/p>\n

The interface provided access to all the features without visual clutter or complexity. There was no 2FA of course, none of this appeared until the redesign of eNom.com in the mid 2000’s. Even when Tucows acquired eNom in 2017, only the front-end changed while the control panel remained the same.<\/p>\n

It was time to move on.<\/p>\n

My only remaining domain with eNom, a .co.uk<\/strong> no less, was transferred out today. I’ve no more domains at eNom, and none at GoDaddy for that matter.<\/p>\n

What surprised me was the way .co.uk domains are transferred to another registrar, in this case Spaceship<\/strong><\/a>. After unlocking the domain, I went to Spaceship to begin the transfer out which required to copy an IPS tag<\/strong> into the domain’s record.<\/p>\n

What is an IPS tag for domains, you may ask. It’s like a reverse authentication code:<\/strong><\/a> You get it from the registrar you move your .co.uk domain to and provide it to the registrar where the domain sits at.<\/p>\n

The moment the IPS tag was updated at eNom the domain was no longer there. It was an instant change<\/strong> of registrar! All I had to do next was complete the transfer at Spaceship by submitting the request. The domain appeared in my account, once again instantly.<\/p>\n

One thing to keep in mind is that .co.uk domains, along with many, if not most, ccTLDs, do not extend a domain’s registration simply by transferring them out. The expiration date remains the same; you can then go and renew the domain using the pricing schedule of the new registrar.<\/p>\n

Overall, I am thankful for using eNom for a whopping 22 years, the most I’ve kept domains at any domain registrar! Keep in mind that you need to update your password often per their recent security requirements.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
