Perfect numbers revisited

While there is a trend that treats every numeric domain as a coin of sorts, the truth is that not all numbers are created equal.

In the course of a decade, I’ve invested in a limited amount of numeric domains in the original three TLDs, perhaps no more than 25 in total, maybe less.

Selective investment means that I am not interested in flipping domains; as a long term investor I treat domains as assets to hold onto, until the right buyer comes along.

The sale of 360.org in 2009 proved that one can make a nice ROI out of particular numbers. I do not ascribe to the notion that every numeric domain has a buyer, unlike the current frenzy on Chinese domain venues catering to resellers.

Enter 100.orgmy best acquisition and sale of a numeric domain to this date – which awaited for the ‘perfect storm’ and the perfect buyer to acquire it. In the past, I received offers from banks, healthcare institutions and the typical Chinese buyer offering $100, none of which led to a sale.

I’m very satisfied by the selling price, and the fact that it’s now owned and used by The Solutions Project, a new, exciting initiative for 100% renewable energy across the US.

The Solutions Project marched in New York in the recent peaceful demonstrations about the preservation of the environment. It’s an honor seeing major Hollywood celebrities, such as Mark Ruffalo and Leonardo DiCaprio, along with car racer Leilani Munter backing the initiative with their established reach to the world of entertainment and to billions of movie viewers worldwide.

I’ve included some of the pictures depicting the first use and promotion of 100.org by The Solutions Project. The sale of 100.org exceeded that of 360.org, thus setting a new record for a three digit .ORG domain. DNJournal will publish the details tomorrow.

Many thanks to Morgan Linton and Mike Bahlitzanakis for their intuitive feedback, Frank Schilling for being spot on with his valuation, and to Sandra Gordon of Escrow.com.

  1. Congrats!
    $50k?

  2. Congrats, Theo!

I look forward to seeing the sales price of 100.org.

Numerals can have a personal meaning to the user; I have one NNNNN that represents an important date in my personal history (but not IN general history), so I am not likely to sell it, at least at current NNNNN prices.

I have several NNNNN that have 247 in them. This is both good and bad, given that “4” is such a negative number for the Chinese. I HAVE seen some NNNNN with “4” selling for low to mid $$$, but the buyer could be non-Chinese (for all I know).

Anyway, it’s an interesting time for NNNNN domains and even some NNNNNN (I don’t get it, but who cares?).

    Best to you!

  3. Nice. My favorite domain sales are those that end up being used for a really great cause. Congrats on the sale 🙂

  4. Patience until DNJournal announces the price tomorrow. 😀

The price was a fair balance between achieving a respectable ROI and assisting with the cause of The Solutions Project.

They get a great, memorable brand and a much-needed boost during their initial, prefunding stage. I am very happy to have sold the domain to a great buyer.

  5. Congrats mate.

  6. Feels GOOD to See it
    on a POSTER being held
    by so many people…
