Why commission increase at Domain Name Sales is a good thing

Since I started using Domain Name Sales in the fall of 2012, I’ve raved – time and again – about the incredible tools it provides to domain investors.

At the time, my move away from Sedo was primarily based on several facts:

  • Inability to view any useful details about the person I am negotiating with.
  • The forceful use of GoDaddy as a source of maddening lowball offers.
  • Trickling of PPC revenue.

Domain Name Sales provided me with the opportunity to override such obstacles, from the get-go. I was able to both park domains with substantially higher PPC revenue, and to manage my selling approach based on the source, type and background checks I can run on inquiries.

About 10% of my sales via Domain Name Sales is performed by their highly competent domain brokers.

The company employs educated people, that possess a great grasp of the market and its intricacies. DNS brokers are constantly trained on the job and they are great negotiators, even if I use them for sales that had reached a dead-end initially.

So why is today’s price increase for brokered commissions, actually a good thing?

  • To put the increase into perspective, a $10,000 dollar sale will increase from a commission of $1,250 to $1,500. That’s perfectly acceptable at that range, and if you aren’t able to get that much of a sales price for some of your domains, you’re doing something wrong.
  • Increased commissions go towards infrastructure, training, and hiring of highly competent individuals. These domain brokers are also compensated at an increased rate, thus becoming more motivated about a potential sale.
  • Lastly, the increase is on a par with other venues that offer fewer tools and less flexibility for your commission dollars. Maximize your earnings by dealing through the most qualified professionals.

I strongly recommend that you call and introduce yourself to the domain brokers that you’ve done lots of sales through. Saying hello, and an honest thank you, goes a long way in any industry – even if you’ll be charged a bit more in the process.

  2. Jeff – Always a pleasure to share an honest review based on extensive personal experience. No venue is without issues, but I’ve found that DNS extends an ear and improves on an already great platform. I’ll be calling Craig soon, he’s one of many awesome brokers!
