Afternic – A pleasant surprise of a domain acquisition venue

Like many other domain investors, I received the news of Afternic’s acquisition by GoDaddy last year with mixed emotions.

Giant companies that incorporate other smaller entities into their business structure, are never good news for the smaller company and its employees.

However, Afternic doesn’t seem to have lost any of its prime glory, and a transaction I just completed reaffirmed just that.

There is an interesting twist to this story; it started as an attempt to acquire the domain on Sedo, but after a week of no response by the seller, my inquiry timed out.

In the meantime, the seller had somehow moved their domain portfolio to Afternic, where I was able to buy it at BIN price.

Strategic acquisitions of domain names and brands are essential, whether one wants to develop active web sites eventually, or to hold for a long term investment.

Due to my high standards and expectations when it comes to transacting expeditiously, I called Afternic and my inquiry was handled promptly and efficiently. Within a couple of hours I had a completed transfer, as the seller pushed the domain to my account, less than 24 hours after I submitted payment.

I will definitely seek to expand my use of Afternic as a domain acquisition platform, and perhaps as a selling platform as well. They do have an impressive domain portfolio of over 5 million listings.

  1. I’ve sold domains pre merger with afternic.com via godaddy.com.
I was impressed with telephone service and help transferring the domains.
And payment was in like one and a half hours via paypal.
It’s good to hear it’s still doing well.

  2. Glad to hear it!
