An “opa!” moment: The GoDaddy video saga continues – part three

During the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to ‘extract’ some information from GoDaddy’s marketing department, regarding the new set of commercials and their use of music composed by the late Greek composer, Manos Hatzidakis.

GoDaddy’s marketing department responded that it’s all the work of marketing and campaign gurus, Deutsch, and that they can’t comment any further.

Upon asking them to bring me in touch with the creative team at Deutsch, I received another reply:

“The only information that we can share with you is that the music was licensed for US/Canada and some international markets for a significant fee. We are unable to share any additional information.”

I’m disappointed that GoDaddy treats the subject as if it were some mysterious act or creation; after all, I have identified the song, its creator and now – after further research – I am able to pinpoint the exact cover of the song. 😀

This video by a Greek-American band called “The Athenians” on YouTube is mislabeled, as it lists “Topcapi” in the title, however this cover of the Manos Hatzidakis song is without any dispute the one used in the new GoDaddy commercials.

The “GoDaddy song” plays from the beginning of the video till about 3:15 into it; then the song “Margarita, Margaro” – another song by Manos Hatzidakis – is performed by The Athenians.

My mission to uncover more facts will continue, stay tuned.
