Down with Facebook, get your own domain names!

Facebook has been up and down more often than an Essex girl’s knickers, to quote a British joke.

Many businesses were drawn into utilizing Facebook as their sole outlet to conduct transactions, all thanks to the easy – and downright plain – creation of content.

Facebook’s reach is remarkable, with more than a billion active users, but what happens during these crucial times that for some reason it’s unreachable?

China is actually blocking Facebook completely, and until they accept western social media versus the local ones that are monitored by the Chinese government, Facebook isn’t really a smart choice for many business owners.

I’ll quote my friend Danny Pryor at Box 30136 who made this great statement today:

“Next time Facebook goes down, will you still have a web presence? If not, perhaps you should consider buying a domain name and putting your business on your own website.”

So there you have it: Down with Facebook, get your own domain name and web site in order to fully reach your potential customers worldwide.

  1. More than anything, businesses are at the mercy of Facebook’s capriciousness.

Who knows? Perhaps Facebook will start charging business owners a fee or fees for being able to “manage” their timelines to their own liking.

At least with domain name and web hosting, businesses have more options open to them.
