There is nothing wrong with parking domains.
Shocked? I am too.
Actually, I am double-shocked because I am a developer. But the truth is that domain parking costs nothing and can produce a hefty amount of revenue, even today.
The secret? Get yourself domains that have traffic or the potential to convert existing traffic into a continuous flow of revenue.
Some guy registered the .ORG of a .COM that I own. His site is about video streaming of TV shows. My .COM picked up a nice amount of traffic and clicks – even for a parked domain. All I do is adjust my .COM’s template, at Parked.com, to match his layout.
Instant money. My cost: zero.
Anyone who tells you that your crappy long tail domains once developed with a push-button WordPress theme can effectively produce revenue that will pay your bills, is flat out lying. I would never make that promise to myself, let alone to clients!
Domain development means one thing: dedication to your project. There is no “mass development” solution and there is no golden chalice that works across the board, for every domainer and every domain. If you paid to have your domains “mass developed” ask for a refund.
If you can get it.
Great point, I have build out about 10 minisites and I work hard update them and they together bring in two hundred dollars in a good month. Its nothing amazing but they cost me very little and pay for my gas and renewals every month.
To each his own, like you said I don’t think any one platform works for everybody. As much as it’s about the money, I want to create an engaging experience for the viewer.
My attention is too limited and there are too many experiences I want to have to put my eggs all in one basket.. err, look for that one golden goose. Id rather tend to a flock of geese that keep me entertained and lay the occasional golden egg, but that’s just me.
I have to agree with you. I am a newbie, but I always thought development is not for everyone; and probably not everyone would be interested in development as it takes a certain skill sets, dedication and hardwork…not to mention creativity. I love parking my site and make a few penny a day…sometime a dollar or two. Well, that’s the allure for buying hand register names for me. At some point I’d like to sell some name. But that too takes creativity. Unless working for others, making money on your own is just plain hard work. I really admire those that had made a living doing it.
Agreed, mass development is so yesterday’s news.
However, I noticed this hot new domaining trend called “ass development”.
Has anyone tried it? Can you make lots of money quickly with a big ass portfolio? If so, should you spread your asses among many niches to mitigate the risk of over-extension?
@Poor Uncle
truer words ave never been spoken. I fumbled around this industry for about a year before finding my way, while the path is still never completely clear, you just have to throw yourself headlong into it and learn along the way.
I think you nailed it on the head though, because I think there are three key ingredients to making it:
Creativity, Hard Work and Dedication. The rest will come if you have the first three.
