GoDaddy Domain Discount Club: An option to consider

GoDaddy and I go way back to my early domain registration days, after the registrar market opened up and Network Solutions lost its monopoly.

It’s a love/hate relationship, but for one reason or another, I maintain a good sized portion of my domain portfolio there; the ability to utilize GoDaddy coupon codes for cheap registrations, leads to savings that add up considerably over the course of a year.

Recently, it became apparent that the concept of discount codes is being eliminated; the $8.67 renewal rate for .com domains was made unavailable, and the current code brings renewals up to $9.99 plus the $0.18 ICANN fee.

Seeing how long term, over the course of a year, I would benefit considerably from the discount pricing of the GoDaddy Domain Discount Club, I used coupon code “cjc35newc” for a 35% discount when joining DDC.

So currently, my dot .com renewal rate is a reasonable $8.29 plus $0.18 in ICANN fees, and I don’t have to hunt coupon codes when renewal time arrives.

There are other benefits to being a member of DDC, of course, and they can be reviewed here.

  1. I did the same a week ago, using the discount. I think if you have more than 100 .com domain names, then DDC is worth it.

  2. I joined recently. Got tired of constantly looking up the recent codes, also I figured it mayb pay off.
It costs $58.49 per year with the 35% discount.
You get a 20 cents lower price than with the cheapest codes for .com renewals, so you actually need about 300 domain renewals to make it worthwhile.

  3. Michael – The problem is that the $8.67 codes are not existent these days, so pricing is well into the $9.99 territory for bulk registrations. Not to mention, the hassle to locate the codes that work every time. Of course, for registrations there are plenty of $1.99 codes out there.

  4. Theo,
I used to get the $8.67 codes on namepros until a few weeks ago. Is that a recent change?
Also worth mentioning GoDaddy service is quite horrible. Almost impossible to get any timely response from an intelligent person over there for tickets. They just copy paste the same stuff regardless of what your issue it.
But prices are cheap, so it’s a trade off.

  5. Hi Michael – As far as I know, the $8.67 codes are obsolete during the recent week. I would not be surprised if renewal codes are eliminated altogether; currently the ones that work bring the renewal price to $9.99 + $0.18 ICANN fee.

To be honest, as a power user I have very little need for GoDaddy support. The overall consensus is that the bigger the company, the larger the number of issues customers have.

  6. Thinking of going with http://www.domaincost.club. Any thoughts on this company?
