Having identified the music playing in GoDaddy’s new commercials that feature women of Mediterranean (“Greek“) looks and a geek sidekick, I reached out to GoDaddy.
The song by the late Greek composer, Manos Hatzidakis, first turned up in 1962. That’s a full 50 years ago, and for that matter, it’s definitely copyrighted.
GoDaddy’s marketing department responded to my inquiry, stating the following:
“As for the music, this is something that was handled by our ad agency Deutsch and unfortunately we cannot comment on.”
I asked GoDaddy to bring me in touch with the creative department of Deutsch that put together the commercials, but I have not heard from them yet. Meanwhile, the commercials go live tomorrow as the London Olympics begin.
