Remove your domain acquisition from “for sale” venues

As a domain investor, I often acquire domains after a considerable amount of negotiation.

My goal is to maintain the privacy of the terms and the associated price.

Although a non-disclosure agreement can take care of the general terms of an exchange, there is a weak point that is not always controlled by me or the seller.

Certain venues maintain information about the sale, and a landing page that can be reached by searching their live database. Quite often, that landing page is also accessible via DomainTools, a partner with many such domain selling venues.

Not only a domain’s availability can be erroneously displayed long after it has been acquired, but a price as well. The latter, might be lower than, equal to, or – sometimes – higher than the number displayed.

Because this can create a number of issues long term, I always reach out to the domain selling venues, such as Sedo, Afternic and GoDaddy, to remove this information. Usually, when that is achieved, DomainTools removes the information automatically in approximately 24 hours.

By being proactive with such publicly available information, one can minimize potential issues in the future, and safeguard their domain investment.
