Swimming in a sea of domain freebies

A little over a week ago, I asked Network Solutions and XYZ to “cut the bullshit” and end the blind give-away promotions that have polarized the domain industry and have created artificial registration numbers.

Not to mention, both companies involved lost a substantial amount of “face” in the industry.

Despite “promises” that if I didn’t click on that link to refuse the registration of the XYZ domain in question, I’d receive it as a “gift” within 7 days, nothing happened.

Maybe because I have no domains left at Network Solutions, after moving them out. Or perhaps because one has to raise the roof for some companies to realize they are doing it all wrong.

Forced promotions with freebies that one “must have” without an option to opt in, are simply wrong and counter-productive.

Assuming that nTLDStats still counts the domain beans like every day, the XYZ numbers at Network Solutions are practically flat. Unless the data isn’t up to date, I see that the promotion is over, and with it, the jolly numbers of alleged daily registrations.

Domain freebies that exceed the demand further devalue the projected worth of the very product they promote. It’s not rocket science.
