On December 7th, 1941 the airplanes of Imperial Japan launched a lethal attack against the American fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
This attack almost destroyed the entire US fleet, killing 2,402 Americans and leaving 1,282 wounded. It marks the entrance of the US to War World II, an important day for the ending of all war activity three and a half years later.
I did not see much activity in remembrance of those killed in Pearl Harbor, either on liberal CNN or conservative Fox News. There is a shocking lack of images, memorial service coverage and those few veterans that are still alive today, are grossly forgotten.
On top of that, PearlHarbor.com – a web site owned by Disney to promote the 2001 movie “Pearl Harbor”, now leads to a 404 page.
Shame on those that forgot the men and women who fell on this day of infamy.
Innocent victims should be remembered.
But before you tear your hair, remember that on 7 December 1941 Hawaii was an occupied colony of the USA. Yankee warships were unwelcome foreign vessels.
Bruce – Using your logic, we should demand restitution from your homeland Sweden for sending Viking vessels in AD 1000 to colonize America.
Show some respect for the war veterans, they kept Europe in shape so that you can use the Internet today and post wisecracks.
Bruce got rocked…
Thanks for the mention about the historic day. You are correct 2402 dead and 1282 wounded is not a day we Americans should disregard….This day in history is the reason the world is not speaking German..Never forget….God bless America.
I probably will not make friends with this post, but maybe its at least a little thought-provoking:
Talking about the American Media, There is no memorial day for the hundreds of thousands killed by bush@co. too. And that was not 70 years ago.
But thats how it is. One american life is probably worth 1000 lifes of other “low lifes” in the “desert” or elsewhere.
Same with Israel and Palestine. As soon as one of those desperate “(firework) rockets” hit an israeli farm and kills a cow or something, its in the entire spectrum of news with full details., camera zoom, 1 hour discussions, condolences,,,,, then – if we are lucky – , 1 sentence about the devastating airstrike and 100 dead children and woman in Palestine as if they are ants or something.
Now i have much respect for all soldiers and veterans. They defend their country and are not politicians. So thats not my point. But somehow sometimes americans should try to look at things from a different perspective.
Sorry if this post should make anybody angry.
