I came across the following snippet of text, in lieu of description, upon looking up a domain parked at Sedo.
It’s rather well-written, and clearly states what every domain investor should ascribe to, with regards to pricing their domains.
DOT COM NET and ORG, the original top level extensions, REMAIN THE GOLD STANDARD THE WORLD OVER. Why get a NOT COM when you can have a real DOT COM? Second and third level extensions, unproven, unaffordable and unconscionably priced domains, and those of developing countries (eg, .co is the country of Columbia), have enjoyed only transient popularity. Avoid the hype. Using a junk domain for your business can turn out to be a costly mistake! DOT COM, NET and ORG are chosen by successful entities.
Our Domains are offered at leading domain sites. Most prices are reasonable FIXED amounts. This saves you time and keeps the domain marketplace sane, fair and transparent. We price them at what we think they are worth, sometimes a bit lower. Direct contact WILL NOT result in a lower price. Seller has sold reasonably priced domains for over 10 years. Web Designers know they can find in our portfolio best quality names for business, Law, Medicine, Science, Technology and Brand worthy short acronyms. Thanks for Visiting!
While the first part is subjective, as .net and .org are both valuable TLDs with a proven track record of sales, the second paragraph is truly epic; it defines the selling approach that many domainers lack – particularly those that consider themselves to be short term ‘flippers’.
Funny, the second part is being discussed on another blog today. I am in the “Asking Price” camp myself, while others seem to be firmly planted in the bid from $0 camp. I think the asking price (or fixed pricing) will win out in the end just like cars and houses.
RD – I’m in the asking price camp also, but I appreciated the descriptive qualities of this sales pitch, definitely not your average “wow, best domain you can find, for sale, wow” copy. 🙂
I keep hearing people talking about the “big 3”, but the truth is .net and .org are not in the same league as .com. Particularly for .net, domainers have always considered it .com’s ugly stepsister and the biggest players in the industry have in their portfolios a percentage of .nets which is comparable to that of “less valuable” TLDs.
