My UPS package has arrived – along with a virus

Every time I receive an email about how my “UPS package has arrived”, I can’t but shake my head at the methods employed by phishing scammers.

That type of email works as follows: the spam arrives the first time around, and one is either bound to open it and trash it or the spam filter kicks in.

The second time around, the same email arrives with a malicious attachment; an executable or zip file that contains a trojan which – when opened – will take over your computer.

Phishing scams can lead to tragedies, such as loss of bank accounts’ balances, hijacking of email or domain accounts; the latter surely leads to domain name loss, eventually.

So keep your eyes open for this method of double-spamming and keep your antivirus software up to date.
