Dot .XXX fever: Did you catch it yet?

The ICM Registry successfully launched the dot .XXX gTLD earlier today.

The corporation behind the much anticipated TLD – took 10 years to approve thanks to the puritans of the George W. Bush administration – already spent more than $4.5 million dollars for the televised Internet campaign of funny videos.

Is the .XXX an investor’s TLD?

Unlike other TLD launches in the past, this one is not vague about its scope; the ICM Registry’s motto has been “Let’s be adult about it“.

There’s no confusion with anything else: Dot .XXX is all about sex, be it educational information to hard core pornography. Those that want to present it in a bad light have the same issues that the Bush administration had for 8 years.

From a developer’s perspective, the Dot .XXX realm is an opportunity to reach into the adult development community and its clients. There is no doubt that *any* other TLD can do the same, however the suffix “XXX” just screams about specialty.

With every new TLD it’s prudent to never over-invest without much research; never put all your domains in the same TLD basket.

Without a doubt, the Dot .XXX has been the most anticipated and probably the most heavily advertised TLD launch in recent history. Marketing budgets exceeded the “norm” by a long shot.

And why not; the adult entertainment industry is among the healthiest on the planet and volume as well as financial numbers will prove that the Dot .XXX TLD will be successful for years to come.

  4. “the most heavily advertised TLD launch in recent history”

You forget .CO: millions of dollars spent in the first year including a SuperBowl commercial (and another one in 2 months). It looks like COInternet is planning to invest big bucks again in 2012.

  5. Joe – The .XXX launch by far dwarfs that of dot .Co in pure numbers.

  6. I like how .co and .xxx ended up marketing themselves. The publicity behind .xxx only helps us. I won’t be investing money into the .xxx extension but I am sure there will be plenty of notable sales happening in the near future for it. The price tag is a little hefty for me.

  7. for adult industry .xxx might end-up being like .net for the mainstream businesses
