Kudos to Sedo for their Chinese domain market awareness

Despite having moved all my domains out of Sedo three years ago, I still buy domains at their marketplace.

Recently, I completed an acquisition of a generic domain via Sedo, from domains in their owned inventory.

Curious about what other domains they are offering, I was able to locate several LLLL .com domains, one of which has great potential.

The short domain aftermarket has received a warm – correction: feverish – embrace in China, and many corporations there seek four letter .com domains without any vowels or the letter “V”.

I proceeded with making the minimum offer their system would accept for the domain, and waited.

The response from Sedo was disappointing, but rather appropriate, displaying their awareness of the Chinese domain market:

Thank you very much for your offer and the interest in this domain. 4-letter.com domains are very popular for domain investors and Chinese show a large interest in these domain. Please submit a bid closer to my price expectation.

To be honest, their asking price – even for these letters – was almost three times the going amount of such domains at auctions. However, Sedo is a business, not a charity, and when their inventory appreciates they sell accordingly.

I canceled the transaction and I do wish Sedo best of luck with their owned inventory sales.

If anyone else is interested in perusing their owned LLLL .com portfolio, here is what I found:

  1. Yo Acro, how do you know these are Sedo owned? That’s what you’re saying right?

  2. Leon – They have DomCollect contact info. That’s a Sedo company.

  3. Good call on their pricing!

I’ve had great success buying and selling on sedo but I agree the values on the LLLL coms were inflated quite a bit.

I’m into 4L & 5L .co / xyz now however as its far too pricey to get the short coms now of course!
