Apparently, my PayPal account is limited, that’s the context of the most common phishing email I receive on a daily basis.
Of course, the notification is being sent to every email account I use, other than my PayPal one.
On top of this, being an Advantage member has its perks, and such email notifications are not actually sent out to premium members.
The problem is, it takes a single time of “forgetting” the rules, and your account can be compromised by clicking on a rogue link; your login info will then be swooped in no time by the senders of this type of phishing email.
As I’ve said time and again, always type the URL of the web site in question to log into your account, or use the designated app. Never click on links in emails, no matter how legitimate they look.
Here here to that, I get these all the time and send them right to my spam folder. Still I can’t tell you how many people I know who have fallen for this and ended up giving hackers access to their Pay Pal account, which is then tied to their bank account, which is then really really bad…
Right on, Morgan. Congratulations on your recent move, see you at TRAFFIC.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Good tip. Never click on links in emails asking you to login. Some phishing scams are very authentic looking.
