Someone actually went ahead and did exactly what Microsoft didn’t foresee: registered MicrosoftLogo.com
The registration occurred roughly 10 hours after my post, reviewing the new Microsoft logo.
For a company commemorating its re-branding after 25 years of using the same logo, this is both embarrassing and silly.
On the other hand, the Spanish fella that registered MicrosoftLogo.com is one big putz.
Some might argue that any domain, even one that violates a famous mark, might have a reason to exist. MicrosoftLogo.com is actually hosted.
Or is it?
Nothing comes up when viewed in Firefox.
Viewing the source, I saw this:
What this guy is attempting to do is pull a masked forward to Sedo’s ad-serving system, somehow tricking it into displaying ads, even though this domain does not appear to be in the Sedo marketplace.
Is this a ‘hack’ or a failed attempt to fool Sedo?
I will come back with the results after bringing it to the attention of Sedo.
Hi Theo,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It appears that the owner of this domain tried to park the name with us, but was unable to do so because it contained a blocked keyword that was flagged by our system. Our system did what it is designed to do, which is prevent the owner from being able to successfully park a domain with a blocked keyword, or earn revenue from it. This is why you could see the Sedo Parking info when viewing the domain’s source code, but the domain did not resolve to a parked page.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Daniel
Nice work SEDO. Good to see the software working exactly as it should be.
