I love you, Parked, but I just have to go

Let me start by stating the Parked.com guys are stellar and that their platform, including the customizable templates are superb.

It’s just that their advertising channels suck right now and I’m not willing to stick it out until the situation improves.

It all started with the notorious rating that Yahoo imposed, which they then expanded to categorize domains – and often block them from Yahoo.

Yahoo actively tags domains in the following categories:

  • Banned
  • Trademark
  • Quality Block (all TLDs that are not com/net/org)
  • Controversial
  • Restricted
  • Adult
  • Alcohol

I have to point out that the 4-5 banned domains that Yahoo inexplicably tagged as such, Parked wasn’t able to have them reinstated; the same domains exist in Google without any problems whatsoever. As for the so-called trademarks, both my Parthenon.info and Topolowa.com are geo-domains. The “Controversial” rating was earned by domains such as ViolentSports.com and ClonedMan.com which effectively displays the type of censorship and pseudo-ethics that define Yahoo’s policies.

So the bottom line is that Yahoo’s policies are what they are – in my opinion, fascistic and outright ridiculous; if Tavern.org is an “alcohol” domain that receives lower PPC from Yahoo then I’d rather keep it at Sedo until the Yahoo masterminds stop drinking cool-aid.

Comments

  1. Parked.com = DirectNIC.com = Intercosmos Media Group = Kenyatech = NOLDC = Alternative Identity = Sigmond Solares = The Producers Inc = tons of other shell companies and ONE HUGE FAIL in the domain registrar and services sector.

They have scammed and defrauded so many people its not funny. I cant believe they’re allowed to continue to operate but that is the domain industry — unchecked and no accountability.

A simple google search will reveal hundreds upon hundreds of reasons as to why you dont want to give a penny to these people.

  2. Mike – While this info is interesting, I never had any issues with Parked, other than their affiliation with Yahoo (versus Google). Despite the changes over to Bing feeds, Yahoo rules are still in place and I’ve witnessed a big increase in PPC at Sedo – not to mention, no such ass-clown behavior that Yahoo displays.

  3. Mike Cohen just knocking the competition again
If we knew who he really was just imagine what we could google up about him?

  4. Voila – Mike above is not Mike Cohen.

Let’s stick to the subject please.

  5. Acro,

If you find any good in any parker, including Sedo, you are missing something.

There are no good parkers. They are not to be trusted. Trust me.

  6. Uzoma – There is nothing wrong with parking domain names. As a developer, I’ve previously blogged on the subject.

However, when parking A pays better than parking B I’ll move to A in a heartbeat.

  7. Parked.com fan says

Acro, you’re not alone. I also love Parked, but my revenue is not as consistent as it has been in the past. I haven’t used DS in over a year, but the recent changes at Parked.com made me revisit them. I hope they can turn things around…
