PASOK – the Panhellenic Socialist Party of Greece – celebrated 38 years in existence today, since its formation on September 3rd, 1974 by the late Andreas Papandreou.
Distinguished for its emblematic green sun logo, PASOK stood for many decades as the supposed bridge between the leftists and the centrists, opposing the conservative right wing of the Greek parliament.
Today, PASOK rebranded itself – much like Microsoft did a few days earlier.
Its iconic green sun lost two rays and gained “perspective”, making the design resemble that of a flower – or that of an archaic political fossil, depending on the viewers’ political angle. From a designer’s standpoint, it contains some serious perspective flaws.
This digital makeover, however, means very little to the Greeks, who have abandoned the ship of the once socialist behemoth in drones, leaving it with just 12.28% of the vote in the latest elections.
For its 38th anniversary, PASOK will need to bring substantially more to the table, than simply an image change.
